Najib: Malaysia translates Hijrah concept into nation’s transformation

KUALA LUMPUR: The Hijrah concept has been translated into tangible efforts in effecting the national transformation to propel Malaysia to greater heights.
Prime Minister Datuk Seri Najib Tun Razak said, upholding the definition of hijrah, which means migration or change, Malaysia had brought about transformation to a level that had won it international recognition and praises as a dynamic and progressive Islamic nation.
Najib said this in his Maal Hijrah (Islamic new year) message on his www.1Malaysia.com.my blog Wednesday.
While expressing gratitude that Malaysia would be able to celebrate Maal Hijrah 1434 (which falls Thursday) amid the spirit of moderation and people's prosperity, Najib said this was in line with the Maal Hijrah theme this time, which was, "Wasatiyyah Tonggak Kesatuan Ummah" (Moderation the Pillar of Unity of the Ummah).
He said transformation was part of the mission for godliness, and a divine command that must be obeyed all the time. "We must always do transformation in order to have a better life in this world and the hereafter...must always strive to do better and hope for blessings from Allah," he said, referring to verse 218 of the Surah (chapter) Al-Baqarah which touches on the link between hijrah and receiving divine blessings.
Najib said if Islamic rulings were comprehensively practised, it would bring the ummah together, resulting in unity and capable leadership that could remove racial, language and colour barriers.
He said Malaysia had generated the thinking that solidarity and unity could be pillared by the wasatiyyah (moderation) approach, which had been incorporated in all matters for balanced spiritual and physical development in the country.
"Indeed through the wasatiyyah approach, unity and race and religious relations can be improved," said Najib, adding that the concept could also raise the value of unity in diversity.
He said the concept of moderation had also been promoted by Malaysia in resolving internal and external conflicts.
For instance, he said, the Malaysian government, acting as mediator, had used the moderation approach in peace negotiations between the Moro Islamic Liberation Front and the Philippine government, bringing to an end 40 years of armed conflict between the two sides, recently.
"We have also been using the same approach in the issue of ethnic and religious violence in the Rakhine state of Myanmar, while focusing on humanitarian aid for the victims regardless of their background and religion," he said.
Najib said recently too, world-renowned ulama Dr Yusuf Al-Qaradawi praised Malaysia for its unwavering commitment to helping and supporting Palestinians who were being oppressed by Israel's zionist regime.
In ending the message, Najib and his family wished all Muslims in Malaysia a happy Maal Hijrah 1434 celebration. - Bernama
